Can chiropractic EHR help private practices?

We've discussed the potential benefits of chiropractic EHR for private practices frequently on this blog, yet this topic is surrounded by so much misinformation that it can be difficult to gain a sense of the material pros and cons to implementation. For smaller practices in particular, adopting EHR may seem too risky a move when you're already struggling with workload and profit margins, but in reality, this move could potentially save your clinic in the long run.

Thankfully, our friends at Kareo have put together an infographic, "Can EHR Save the Private Practice?" to address a few of the most important statistics regarding chiropractic EHR use among private practices as clearly and accessibly as possible.

First, just how many private practices are using EHR?

  • 42 percent of solo practices
  • 53 percent of two-physician practices
  • 60 percent of practices with three to five physicians.

These physicians have enjoyed the following benefits since implementing EHR:

  • Faster, more accurate billing – 74 percent
  • Increased efficiency – 56.9 percent
  • Money saved on paper storage – 90 percent
  • Satisfying ROI on EHR - 57.2 percent
  • Time saved through eprescribing – 67 percent.

On average, private practices and solo physicians have seen $33,000 in revenue increases after EHR implementation. In addition to these positive developments in terms of ROI, physicians overwhelming view EHR adoption as a means to improve patient care across the board.

So, with these benefits in mind, what is keeping 45 percent of physicians from adopting EHR software in their practices? The primary cause of concern among these professional is simple: Fear of the unknown. These physicians are unfamiliar with EHR software, and concerns about ease of use rank as the leading source of hesitation. Often, though, these issues can be allayed simply by seeking out a chiropractic EHR software provider who offers an intuitive product back by support and training.
