Since more industries rely on the Internet for a wide array of activities ranging from tracking productivity to researching potential marketing strategies, doctors of chiropractic may consider using web-based medical software and join a cloud platform.

On April 4, 2012, the Open Data Center Alliance – a leading global information technology organization – released five new usage models related to information technology (IT) requirements within cloud computing.

These requirements were first set up based on the biggest issues facing cloud technology for Alliance member organizations. This organization further set up goals aimed at improving security and communication channels within cloud computing platforms. Along with such goals, various innovations were identified that would spread the use of cloud computing to other enterprises.

Through the adoption of these specific ideas, annual IT spending would be lowered by $25 billion in only five years and cloud technology investment would decrease by more than $50 billion. To prove that this is a real possibility, members of this organization will be implementing proof of concept testing of solutions, following the requirements previously set.

The results of these tests will be revealed at the Open Data Center Alliance Forecast 2012, a symposium for IT experts discussing cloud technology solutions for the current year. This conference, to be held on June 12 in New York City, will bring together industry experts, Alliance members and technology-related businesses to learn how adoption of the ODCA usage model can improve the productivity of companies utilizing cloud technology.

"The Open Data Center Alliance was formed to help our members deploy cloud with the most innovative technologies addressing the most urgent requirements for enterprise IT," Curt Aubley, VP and CTO of cyber security provider Global NexGen Cyber Innovation & Technology, said in a press release. "These five usage models, underscoring the significance of security and infrastructure capabilities in the cloud, help us blaze a path toward widespread cloud adoption based on open, industry standard solutions."

By implementing new usage models, a chiropractor can save costs and improve workflow once he or she purchases web-based EHR software.
